A collaborative work for Chagee MY.
From the misty mountains of Yunnan to the vibrant heart of Kuala Lumpur, this artwork traces the ancient tea trading route as both a path and a memory. The woven panels, inspired by traditional Malaysian Songket and Kelarai, carry the Tampuk Manggis mudah / simplified mangosteen motif; a symbol of welcome and abundance, interlaced with the shifting silhouettes of mountain ranges landscape.
Each knot and strand captures the rhythm of the journey, the meeting of worlds; mapping mountains, valleys, and moments along the way, while the layered collaboration with Afi Sulaiman’s 2D illustrations creates a meeting point between texture and image, tradition and modernity.
Together, they form not just a scene, but a homecoming.
Through a combination of fiber techniques and natural textures, this installation is not just a wall; it is a woven timeline. It connects continents, generations, and cultures, rooted in craft and united by the threads of trade, memory, and home.
