Threads of Celebration is a woven tapestry that celebrates Malaysia’s cultural diversity through colors, textures, and motifs inspired by our shared heritage. Drawing inspiration from hand-drawn batik, a textile tradition cherished by Malaysians of all backgrounds. The piece incorporates symbolic patterns such as clusters of black pepper seeds, indigenous basketry weaves, coastal waves, and the vibrant Bunga Kantan, often used in festive dishes.
The wave of colors is brought to life using upcycled saree and t-shirt yarns, giving discarded materials a second life. Each strand represents renewal, sustainability, and the interconnected stories of many hands. Together, we reimagined traditional craft into a contemporary form, breaking boundaries between art, design, and cultural storytelling.
Installed at Shake Shack KLIA2, a gateway to Malaysia, this piece welcomes travelers with the spirit of abundance, warmth, and togetherness that define our nation.
